Author Statement
My life is held within the container of nature. It provided the inspiration to pursue the artist’s path in middle age, and it’s where I turn for comfort. And it’s taught me, amidst the currents of change, the lessons of life’s interconnectedness and the nearly invisible intricacies that emerge when you keep your eyes open to the wonder that surrounds us.
These poems, a memoir of my life, are stories about home and displacement, grief and love, reinvention, and starting again despite the sorrow. Throughout, I’ve used the language of color, textiles, and the natural world to understand my memories, as art and nature are how I make sense of the world.
